Oak Chapel Throne Chair SAI4137

An impressive early 20th‑century oak chapel throne chair, formerly of Caputh Parish Church, Perthshire, crafted in the Gothic Revival style. The tall back is carved with three pointed‑arch panels, drawing inspiration from Gothic church architecture, while the open arms and square seat give the piece a strong, a commanding presence. The chair stands on robust supports united by an H‑shaped stretcher, ensuring excellent stability. A striking and well‑proportioned ecclesiastical chair with superb social‑history interest, presented in very good condition and rich with character.

Pined to the back is a metal maker’s label reading: “Manufactured by The Lord Roberts Memorial Workshops for Disabled Soldiers and Sailors, Ladywell Cabinet Works, Dundee.” This marks the chair as a product of a significant early 20th‑century charitable initiative supporting the rehabilitation and employment of wounded servicemen.
