This is magnificent and most rare English fusee timepiece carriage clock with an electroformed case which is in wonderful original condition.
Electroforming or Electrotyping is described in some detail on the internet but basically the process was patented by George Elkington in 1840 and is basically the making of a metallic object by heavy electrodeposition , usually of copper , which may afterwards be silvered or gilded.
It is known to have been used by James McCabe and E.J.Dent and was used in some of their finest clocks.
The advantage of this process is the ability to reproduce in very fine detail which can be observed in this particular clock . A virtually identical example by James Voak is illustrated on page 352 of “Carriage and other travelling clocks ” by Derek Roberts.
As the images show the case is very well detailed and depicts vines and birds to the silvered panels but also has a beautifully engraved and gilded dial to contrast will the case
Rarely do exceptional pieces such as this appear on the open market as they are generally cherished in collections although I doubt that there are many of the quality of this particular clock.
My clock is sold with the movement fully serviced and great working order.
I have included a selection of photographs that accurately represent the item
The clock is of English manufacture dating circa 1860. It retains its original gilding and platform escapement . The fine quality unsigned fusee movement has a running duration of 8 days.
The clock is 6 1/2 inches tall with the handle raised , 3 3/4 inches wide. The depth is 3 1/8 inches.
It has obviously been well cared for and cherished all its life.
I am unable to determine with certainty the maker..
This is a genuine and original clock and I offer a full money back guarantee to this end.
It is very unlikely indeed that a carriage clock of this type will appear on the open market in the foreseeable future.
If a prospective purchaser wishes to contact me directly my contact details are at the bottom of the listing.
If the asking price is paid in full I will provide a 2 years guarantee and deliver the clock to England Scottish lowlands or ship the clock worldwide
