Khmer seated Avalokiteshvara with 3rd eye
Angkor period, Style of Baphuon,
10th century,
Sandstone,
Height 64cm, Width 42cm, Depth 27cm,
Description: This male deity can be identified as the Avalokiteshvara. The figure of small Amitabha Buddha on the front
of his chignon-cover is consistent with proposed identification.
Loops of braided hair form a high chignon held in place with a band at the base, which is classic Baphuon style.
Note: the sculpture comes with the export permit.
