Description

An exceptional and authentic 10×15 cm black-and-white studio portrait of highly decorated Luftwaffe Ace, Generalmajor Franz Kieslich (1913–2015). The photograph depicts Kieslich in his formal Luftwaffe officer’s uniform, striking a poised and commanding pose. He is proudly wearing his prestigious Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves (Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes mit Eichenlaub), alongside his Iron Cross 1st Class and other campaign awards. The reverse of the card remains blank, typical of period studio prints.

The Inscription: What elevates this piece is the period ink inscription across the chest of the subject. The dedication reads in German: “Mein lieber alter Kamerad!” (My dear old comrade!) It is boldly signed by the General himself: “Franz Kieslich”, and dated “10. 4. 44” (April 10, 1944).

Historical Significance: Franz Kieslich was one of the most experienced pilots of the Second World War, having flown an astonishing 1,078 combat missions. As a recipient of the Oak Leaves to the Knight’s Cross, his autograph is highly sought after by militaria collectors and aviation historians.
