HUGE Salver Tray 1854 KOYLI Second West Yorkshire Light Infantry silver plated

This is a rare delightful historical work of art in the shape of a LARGE silver plated salver or tray.

It has a WONDERFUL crisply engraved insignia or badge that reads as follows:

“Second West York.”

Surrounded by a belt, ribbon above and bugle or horn with the Yorkshire rose in the centre.

This is the historical Second West Yorkshire Light Infantry that later became the King’s Own Light Infantry (KOYLI). They saw action in the Crimea, India, South Africa (Boer) and both world wars.

Made by the then world leading silversmiths Elkington and Company of Birmingham, this is a truly remarkable survivor from 1854.

This is silver plate of the highest quality, it has crisp marks for 1854 as shown in the images provided.

The letter ‘P’ in a lozenge or diamond shape is registered as 1854.

It weighs an impressive 2.9kg and is of heavy gauge and around 10mm thick.

Full measurement: 22 inches across x 17 inches wide x 1.5 inches deep

Fresh from a private house near Haworth in the West Riding of Yorkshire.
The family history claims that it was at one time used in the Belle Vue Barracks in Bradford but there is no proof of this so take it with a pinch of salt and pepper.

There are some minor scratches and blemishes as shown (spots of tarnish).
