Description
Old Sheffield Gravy Argyle. The 5th Duke of Argyll (1723 – 1806) was the promoter of this new piece of table wear designed to keep the warmth of the meat juices while separating off the fat.
All Argyle’s have two compartments lower for hot water and then the long thin pourer (no flour used to thicken then – hence narrow spout) which is fitted at the base causes only the meat juices to pour as the fat automatically rises to the surface.
