A handsome early 19th-century inlaid mahogany secretaire bookcase, presented in excellent antique condition and complete with working keys and original glass ink wells.
The upper section is topped by a beautifully shaped broken swan-neck pediment above a moulded dentil cornice. The pair of astragal-glazed doors enclosing adjustable shelves, ideal for displaying books and collections. The finely figured mahogany has acquired a rich colour and mellow patina, complementing the refined Gothic-inspired glazing bars.
The lower section features a fall-front secretaire drawer opening to reveal a beautifully fitted interior, comprising an arrangement of small drawers, pigeonholes, and a leather-lined writing surface. Beneath are two long graduated drawers fitted with attractive lion’s mask ring handles, providing generous storage.
Raised on bracket feet, this elegant and highly practical piece combines bookcase, bureau, and chest of drawers in one handsome item, making it equally suited to a study, library, drawing room, or contemporary interior.
