Description

Chinese Chippendale inspired dining suite

This suite we made in our workshops many years ago when I had a Chinese Chippendale moment after making a set of 16 Scottish Cockpen chairs, I decided to make these using the same jointing techniques as with the cockpen. Some of the most pleasing chairs and designs to bring to life. These chairs ( the carvers) 115 hand manicured joints from memory, to create these. Unfortunately, we don’t have close-ups of the 1 off the table we designed here, the problem was, these chairs in the 18th century when this chinoiserie design came to fashion only chairs where made. So this table we designed to match with two canted boxed frames with cross stretchers and a central table top leaf, included in this picture where it lived in my house for several years before I sold it. 24ct gold leaf applied with size, beech wood japanned with countless ultra-thin layers of shellac to create this lustrous depth and fine finish. There are a few tricks to this framing. With time and frame of mind, i will endeavour to talk more about the, how to make fine chairs like these.

Now back for resale. 30 years later. Last image is present.
