Beautiful Anglo Indian Silver Christening Cup Jungle Design 1914 WW1
This is a rare little gem with a stunning ‘wrap around’ jungle design that has been chased and engraved wonderfully with the details standing proud off the surface.
It is a christening cup with a shield cartouche containing the name and year:
“Violet
October 14th
1914”
It would have been made just months into World War One (WW1) and at a time that tens of thousands of Indians joined the war effort to support the British war effort in Europe, Africa and Asia.
This is a very high quality little work of art as can be seen by the overall shape, decoration and attention to detail such as the engraving on the handle. The handle itself is clearly designed to be gripped by small hands!
The jungle village design on this christening cup is typical of Anglo Silver made in Calcutta.
This delightful gem has been tested as sterling silver.
It weighs a solid 75g and measures 2.5” (H) x 3” (W).
