Description
This Edwardian bar brooch features a colourful central oval Opal measuring 14.7 x 10. 6 mm in a Silver collet setting with millegrain edge.
The Opal displays lovely predominately blue /green tonality, but has other rich colour flash-
as can be seen by the images.
The setting sits upon a rose gold bar which tapers from 3 mm at the ends to 1.27 mm at the point at which it joins the silver setting.
The reverse of the mount is stamped “9ct” and has a white metal pin secured by a split fork catch retaining fastener.The brooch also has a fixing point for a safety chain.
The Opal would have been mined from the relatively new sources in Australia,which had started to produce the gem in the last quarter of the nineteenth century.
