£140.00
A fine-quality, curved (chest-shaped) Damascene-inlaid cigarette case. The lid features a detailed Japanese landscape inlaid in gold-colored metal (frequently one finds 24k gold and silver inlay over iron or blackened steel), depicting a traditional watermill, thatched-roof houses, pine trees, a sailing boat on a lake or shore, and Mount Fuji in the background. The reverse features further inlay decoration, and the border is exquisite, with profuse detailing along the edges of both sides of the case. Original retaining bands to the interior and, surprisingly, no signature.
