copper engraved map with some old hand colouring and some additional recent hand colouring; paper size 29 x38,5 cm; plate size 29 x 32,5 cm. top and lower margin cropped to platemark; some very faint discolouration; fold as issued; a few stains; o/w exc. cond.
Very decorative world map with elaborate border, cartouche and vignette. The double-hemispheres are supported by two different depictions of Atlas; a drape-shaped vignette with a dedication and the coat-of-arms of the French king are in between the two statues. The title is in an elaborately decorated cartouche. The border is embellished with the French coat-of-arms and floral garlands.
