Description
A striking Victorian Gothic Revival oak hall chair, richly carved throughout and presented in excellent antique condition. The shaped back is finely pierced and carved with scrolling foliate ornament, centred by an upholstered oval panel, and flanked by distinctive carved lion mask terminals.
The chair stands on boldly curved supports united by a turned stretcher, with further carved mask decoration to the centre. Crafted in solid oak, it displays a wonderful rich colour and attractive patina, highlighting the character of the timber and quality of the carving.
The seat is upholstered in a decorative fabric featuring birds and floral motifs, complementing the warmth of the oak. Both decorative and functional, this unusual chair would make a striking hall, library, or occasional chair and serves as an excellent example of late Victorian Gothic Revival furniture.
