Description
A superb 18th-century Dutch marquetry walnut display cabinet, presented in excellent antique condition and richly decorated throughout with intricate floral marquetry.
The moulded arched pediment is finely inlaid with trailing foliate scrolls and flowers above a pair of glazed doors opening to a velvet-lined interior fitted with shelves, ideal for displaying porcelain, glassware, or treasured collections. The canted glazed sides further enhance the cabinet’s elegance while allowing light to enter from multiple angles.
The lower section is formed as a bombe-front chest of three drawers, each profusely inlaid with elaborate foliate scrolls, flowers, and classical urn motifs. Beautifully executed marquetry continues across the sides, creating a highly decorative appearance from every angle. The shaped drawers retain their attractive period brass handles and are raised on bracket feet.
Crafted in richly figured walnut, the cabinet has acquired a wonderful colour and mellow patina over the centuries, beautifully complementing the vibrant marquetry decoration. Both practical and highly decorative, this exceptional Dutch cabinet would make a striking focal point in both traditional and contemporary interiors.
