Description
WWI-era Austro-Hungarian Red Cross medic armband, a highly recognizable and historically significant piece of medical service equipment. Constructed from sturdy white linen or cotton canvas, the armband features the iconic red cross sewn prominently to the center. It is complete with its period metal button fastening system, a characteristic feature often found on Austro-Hungarian issued examples. Measuring approximately 39 x 8.5 cm, the piece exhibits honest signs of period wear, including light staining and patina, which only add to its historical character. This armband was worn by medics (Sanitäter) and volunteers to ensure their protection and identification as non-combatants on the battlefield under the Geneva Convention. An essential artifact for the collector of WWI medical history or Central Powers militaria.
