Description
A superb quality early Victorian rosewood chiffonier in the manner of Gillows, displaying the restrained elegance and exceptional craftsmanship for which the firm is renowned.
The rectangular top is crowned by a shaped raised back, above a finely figured frieze drawer richly decorated with striking brass inlay set against ebony grounds. The cupboard below is enclosed by a pair of silk-lined panelled doors, opening to reveal practical shelved storage, and flanked by impressive brass-capped Corinthian columns with finely cast capitals.
Further decorative detail is provided by the parcel-gilt gadrooned moulding to the base, while the cabinet is raised on elegant turned and reeded legs terminating in brass castors. The warm tones and beautifully figured rosewood veneers are complemented by the crisp brass inlay and classical architectural detailing throughout.
A particularly handsome and refined piece, combining the quality and sophistication associated with Gillows with excellent practicality, making it an impressive addition to any home.
