Description

The engine was constructed in December 1934 by the North British Locomotive Company in Glasgow. [1]

Design: It belongs to the 4-6-0 Jubilee Class designed by the prominent engineer William Stanier. [1, 2]

Naming: In 1936, the engine was officially named after Kolhapur, a princely state in British India, keeping with the class custom of naming locomotives after territories of the British Empire.

Preservation: After being withdrawn from everyday service by British Railways in October 1967, it was thankfully saved from the scrapheap. It was purchased for preservation in 1968 and became famously associated with the Tyseley Locomotive Works, where it was heavily restored to its signature crimson lake livery seen in the print.
