Victorian Scottish Carved Thistle Chair SAI4285

An exceptionally ornate carved hardwood chair, richly worked with deep relief foliate motifs and unmistakably Scottish symbolism. The tall pierced back is adorned with thistles, oak leaves, acorns, and intertwined vines — all carved with remarkable crispness and depth, celebrating traditional Scottish decorative carving. The arms, apron, and legs continue the same exuberant detail, including stylised creatures and bold acanthus flourishes that give the piece tremendous character.
The seat is upholstered in a charming floral needlepoint panel, which can be easily recovered to suit any interior while retaining the integrity of the frame. The chair stands on boldly carved legs, each one richly worked with deep foliate detail that echoes the thistle and oak‑leaf motifs in the upper carving. the chair has a commanding presence and embodies the romantic revival craftsmanship of the late 19th century.
