Circa 1815. A rare and unusual Edinburgh-made mahogany open bookcase, probably by ‘Sir William Trotter of Edinburgh’, the top in fine flame mahogany with a simple moulded fore-edge, the frieze with a pair of elegant drawers with turned knob handles, with flame mahogany panels with quarter beadings below a half bobbing beading which runs around the sides, with a single adjustable shelf, flanked by a pair of rectangular pilasters, beneath the bottom shelf the quarter beading occurs again, all resting on an enclosed mahogany plinth. The bookcase has many features similar to those used by Sir William Trotter.
