An Arts & Crafts solid oak settle c1910, having a low backrest and sides with square cut-outs to the lower side supports. Very much in the manner of Charles Limbert (although unsigned) who was inspired by Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
The seat cushion, two side and two backrest cushions have been newly and fully upholstered to met with current fire regulations, and covered with a new leather. They are attached to the frame with leather straps and replaced dowels.
The settle has a distinctive colour usually created by ammonia fuming. A method used by Limbert, Stickley and other Arts & Crafts makers to darken oak furniture.
In very good condition, no repairs.
