Description

Animalistic painting with pheasants in the nature was executed by well-renowned Scottisch animalist David Georg Steell ( 1856 – Edinburgh – 1930). He was the son of other famous painter Gourlay Steell (1819-1894) and recieved acknowledge especially for his dog works.

Literature: H.Vollmer “Artsi Lexicon of 20th century”, V. 4, Leipzig, 1958; article “Scottish Painting etc., 1908. – Who was Who, 1929/1940.

Inscription: signed and dated 1891 lower left.

Technique: oil on wood. Original gold-plated frame.

Measurements: image w 14 1/4″ x h 18 1/8″ (36 x 46 cm); framed w 22″ x h 26 3/4” (58 x 68 cm).

Condition: very good.
