Description
Delightful mid 19th Century Ottoman Official Wax Seal Brass
A wonderful quality circular brass seal with deeply incised reverse inscription in Arabic.
This is an unusual large type as the majority of Ottoman official brass seals that we have handled over the past 30 years have been smaller oval types.
The Ottoman Empire ruled over a vast swathe of North Africa into the Near East so there were a huge number of officials who had seals such as this one. We have recently sold a very rare silver seal for a British civil servant in India and gold seals were reserved usually for royalty.
There is an attachment that is pierced for this hang around the neck.
Please note that we have a small collection of these circular Ottoman brass seals from the mid 19th century, some of which are dated.
In amazing, good original condition.
Diameter of face: 25mm
