Description
A Brynmawr Furniture Company, Cotswold School oak open bookcase with two fixed shelves.
The bookcase was purchased from the son of Gwyn Lewis Thomas who worked at Brynmawr Furniture Factory from 1932 as a 14 year old apprentice. After completing his apprenticeship, Gwyn worked as a qualified cabinet maker working under the guidance of Paul Matt. He made various pieces of furniture within the factory, and was able to keep the pieces for personal use, which have remained in the family home. The furniture he made utilised the designs and structure recognisable only to the Gwalia Factory (Brynmawr).
Employees at the factory were not allowed to attach the factory badge on any of the pieces they made themselves and therefore no badge is present, but I can provide provenance from the family.
In good condition.
